Quick Assist, translated as Quick assistance, it came to Windows 10 with Windows 10 Insider build 14316, but back then it was still not functional and even if we tried to open the application, it would not run. With the latest Insider compilations released, especially with all those after 14385 and, above all, with the final version of the Anniversary Update, this tool appears as one of the Universal Apps included by default in the operating system and, moreover, fully functional .
Quick assistance seeks to enable Windows 10 users request or provide assistance over the Internet with other people known in a similar way to other similar programs, such as TeamViewer. Although Windows has already had a similar platform for years, called Remote desktop o “Remote Desktop”, this new one is especially characterized by being simple to use so that even users with less computer knowledge can easily request support.
Among the main features of this application we can highlight that the application is compatible with touch interfaces (something very important to promote your Surface platform) and also offers us the ability to write on the screen as “annotations” and thus be able to communicate with the other person, although for this it would be better to incorporate a simple chat, something that will probably come in the future.
Next, we will see how this simple tool works.
How Windows 10 Anniversary Update Quick Support Works
To launch the application, the first thing to do is look in Cortana for “Quick Assist” or “Quick Assistance.” We click on the icon that appears and we will see the main window of this application.
Depending on what we want to do, or receive or provide assistance, we must choose one of the two options that appear. In the case of being the one who is going to offer support, we choose the second option and we can see a new screen where they provide us a 6-digit temporary code.
We must provide this code to the other person, who must enter it in the «Receive assistance«.
After a few seconds, the program will show us a window with the name of the person who is going to control the computer remotely (for security purposes) and, if we agree and allow it, after a few seconds it will take control of our computer to help us solve the problems.
Thanks to this application, both users and professionals will be able to work remotely much more comfortably without using third-party applications, taking full advantage of the new features included in the new Anniversary Update.
